    15. 1813 brings us Dr David Livingston. this Scottish explorer and missionary did much to signify the Victorian age of discovery – the phrase Dr Livingston, I presume comes from popular culture of the time yet the actual proof oops is missing but so strong is it that the Moody blue’s song of the same name in nineteen sixty-eight immortalizes the term for a new generation.

      N’s

    28. 3113 reads the same backwards or forwards – thus is a palindrome uncommon!

    29. Two blackbirds together is good luck – its uncommon!

    30. Seeing your initials in a spiderweb is forever good luck.

    31. Find a penny face up and pick it up – you’ll have luck all day – give it to a friend and your luck will never end.  In modern times that is like finding a $20 bill – because-hamburger turners at minimum wage make 2 cents in the time it takes to pick up a penny, it is actually a waste of time to earn money this way – however it is still uncommon to find a penny.  :D

    32. Spilling salt -an omen of bad luck? nope toss a pinch over the shoulder ;) which shoulder? (left???)

    33. To prevent an unwelcome guest from returning, sweep out the room they stayed in.Oh, and never take a broom along when you move :) – I find the saying common enough, but the logic uncommon.  Why?  Removing germs, pests etc people! is serious change which is not adored by pests or people – so removing the comfort by which they live in, removes their welcome, or in the case of thee pests you remove the food source ;)

    34. To eat lettuce, magically powered of bringing or NOT bringing about births is interesting.  It would seem that half the people hated the lettuce rule – later this escalated to quasi-science! – how would a sterile plant bring about birth? -do not eat it – or who wants the kiddos so why eat it ??  But the most favorite point of all is that lettuce is the beginning of salad – the foremost method invoked by those trying to be healthy / lose weight, which in a way means lettuce still factors in sex somewhere and it’s up to you to choose your luck

    35. Tony Orlando and the Dawn sang “knock three times on the ceiling if you want me – twice on the pipe means the answer is no.”  Knocking three times on wood is so evil spirits wont ruin it. Bells or pipes ward off evil spirits who are afraid of the noise.

    36. Knife falls gentleman calls, fork falls lady calls, spoon falls baby calls – what happens when the silver drawer is dropped?!!

    37. One should always eat fish from head to tail – this one is uncommon advice in that its logical to some and illogical to others.  I posit that to those with an interest for convention it’s good eating habits/etiquette plus a a reminder of where to check for bones.  However, the smarter of you realize  that just as easily this is the dumbest ever advice / superstition in that after a few glasses of wine the vision goes blurry looking for smaller and smaller bones to avoid choking hazards.  Which one are you? lucky orderly plodders to your misfortune or slovenly mis-mannered sots who aim to live?

    38. You cant wear out your eyes – or damage them in dim light or eat carrots to improve them?  While most of this is erroneous, the carrots along WITH a balanced diet help – but the rest of that is junk – but because it is more of a health in general thing, it’s largely bogus for one to say eat more carrots and expect miraculous eye-health improvement ;)

    39. Eye facts prove that where you or your child holds the book is nothing more than where they hold it – preference – or need of glasses.  And, while you wont ruin your eyes by not wearing glasses, you will not improve them nor likely notice how much in need you are of adjusting your prescription or checking your eye health.  Eye exercises are BS.- no help at all, go get glasses and avoid headaches which just are uncomfortable.

    40. Warm milk makes you sleepy – this actually a true statement to most of us.  Why? not so much the tryptophan in milk, which is the same sleepy in the turkey dinner, as there isn’t enough in milk for sleep – but because you’re comforted and loved ;)

    41. Taking long hot baths will make you less “vigorous” (as in making babies)   Interestingly enough this is true – jacking up the heat balance of the male body slows sperm production enormously. We are of course talking about the hot hour long bathers versus showerers.  Low sperm count is also depressing and can lead to hair loss but before you warn your bald boys to lay off the extravagant bathing, high sperm counts also can lead to hair loss so ;) you wouldn’t have a clue one way or another about bald guys

    42. Eating cranberries will help with a bladder infection this actually true however not for the reasons I thought which are diuretic pee more it’s resolved faster cleaner yadada, but because it destroys the infection wanting to cling to the bladder wall ;) thank you harvard

      G’s

    43. Expressing a wish expresses a lack which is thought upon and often brings more negativity

    44. Sing before seven – cry before eleven…  Which seven; which eleven????

    45. Frogs entering the house good luck, ask the Egyptians of the biblical stories! (not able to move backwards) don’t leave the door open??

    46. Tails up pennies and giving found money to friends? get a brain and get a job ( an hour’s wage in mid-evil times)

    47. Knit a boyfriend socks and he’ll leave? another pickler in that this can be true of why buy a cow when the milk’s free? door-matting is bad luck

    48. 51 is the biblical number symbolizing repentance -Elijah is told to come down from the mountain by a captain and his fifty 51 – 51 charred bodies no once, twice and the third repents and is spared- psalm 51 begin king David’s repentance for adultery ending in 153 the same 3 times echoed 51 – area fifty one is the Nevada AFB wherein nothing happened be it alien or otherwise, revisable by three thereby third wheels the world over can play a card game–you know there is nothing but forced symbolism involved that I see unless you’d like Puerto Rico to be fifty-one?

    49. Fifty-two is the standard sized deck and guess what it’s French doesn’t that get you in a pique? all the rest are 32 to 36 – the best odds of any gambling game – baccarat wherein you’ve

49% at best to win-flip a coin people better odds

    50. 53 on the periodic table of elements is iodine meaning purple – it should remind some of us of that sting used to treat cuts. choose whether it was a discomfort to risk infection

    51. 54 xenon is the stuff strobes in cameras that allow us to get the pictures while the flash is 1899 Lionel of the toy train fame the strobing is 1927 Edgerton of MIT- go ahead look around you -exciting gas xenon is the closest to the daylight we got- but you go Gee thanks every time the flash goes off in your eyes ;)

    52. 55 gallon drum – like the hogshead of the sailing days of old 31 gallons the true “keg” the drum came about also in shipping this time ww2. 44 is how its known elsewhere as an imperial gallon is larger and the number symbolic to the tide turned in ww2 or 20 liters in metrics – but nothing will change the name from drum to barrel as it is the Caribbean instrument – it still tip&rolls too.

    53. 56 the academy awards largely snub the big money maker film of the year the 10 commandments… in favor of the the more musical the king and I – Yul Brynner is part of both

    54. 1357 influenza or the flu is named woo hoo for the flu…well maybe not

    55. 58 may 8th often mothers day, but 76 saw the first vertical loop steel coaster open the revolution six flags, and mt everest without oxygen in 1978

    57. 1360 on the Muslim calendar is? 1942 wherein the sikorsky r-4 flies first january 13th – it is the first mass produced helicopter

      O’s

    1. 13 seems to have become unlucky as it was originally the number of full moons a year and far more tide to lady physiology and thus 13 being Moon-ey and women y became hated in the glory of man. most unfortunate dates became associated with planned misfortunes as butchering the knight’s templar or witchcraft or anything that said power to womankind.

    2. 1362 see another example of the king’s English – when king Edward 3rd of england addresses the parliament in English instead of French – then the national language of england.

    3. Amendment 13 to the constitutions of the united states abolished slavery. some j ust might consider that lucky

    4. Rome burned in 64 AD Nero was ultimately blamed yet funny much evidence removes the argument from him including the cost he bore to rebuild and that of opening the palace to the homeless… he could have took it anyways… oh well he was anyways and committed suicide.

    5. 1865 – 1900 begins the second industrial revolution with usable electricity petroleum, steel. railways and telecommunications

    6. 6613 on the byzantine calendar sounds like it’s far in the future but, it’s 1105 ad and poor heavily pregnant Maude of Bologna was slowed down by the kid and Stephen became king of England, guys can be so helpful.

    7. 6713 is on the Byzantine calendar is 1304 smack dab in the middle of the first war of Scottish independence, 1304 BC however is smack dab in the middle of the revelation of the Torah to Moses.

to prevent an unwelcome guest from returning, sweep out the room they stayed in – oh, and never take a broom along when you move :)   – I find the saying common enough but the logic uncommon  why?  removing germs, pests etc people! is that serious change is not adored with people so removing the comfort by which they live in, removes their welcome, or in the case of  thispests you remove the food source ;)
to eat lettuce of it’s magical power of bringing or NOT bringing about births is interesting for it would seem thathalf the people hated the lettuce rule – later this escalated to quasi-science! how would a sterile plant bring about birth do not eat it- or who wants the kiddos so why eat it ??  butthe most favorite point of all is that lettuce is the beginning of salad – the foremost method invoked by those trying to be healthy/ lose weight, which in a way mean lettuce still factors in sex somewhere and it’s up to you to choose your luck

you can wear out your eyes – or damage them in dim light or eat carrots to improve them- while most of this is erronious, the carrots along WITH a balanced diet help but the rest of that is junk – but because it is more of a health in general thing, it’s largely bogus for one to say eat more carrots and expect miraculous eye0health improvement ;)
eye facts that where you or your child holds the book is nothing more than where they hold it- it’s preference – or need of glasses and while you wont ruin your eyes by not wearing glasses you will not improve them nor likely notice how much in need you are of adjusting your prescription or checking your eye health AND eye exercises are bs.- no help at all, go get glasses and avoid headaches which just are uncomfortable.
warm milk makes you sleepy – this actually a true statement to most of us- why? not so much the tryptophan in milk which is the same sleepy  in the turkey dinner, because there isn’t enough in milk for sleep- but because you’re comforted and loved ;)

  • food not funny

gyros.  why? because they aren’t funny but food. :D

gyros are of course Mediterranean, although most know them as Greek specifically  Why does that distinction matter?  because you can enter a Jerusalem restaurant and have them the same as a Greek restaurant.

    In denver metro:

    http://www.shishkabobgrill.com/sandwich.html

    http://denver.citysearch.com/profile/35790371/westminster_co/kabob_station.html

if memory serves in order Jerusalem  indicates israeli origins Jewish or arabic I didn’t ask, shishkabob grill Lebanese, and Kabob Station – Syrian.  The point being its not longer Greek if anything else.

    -

I didn’t watch this episode prior to making my version even if I have seen it before and remember it’s culinary wisdom.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_c3lr1HtR_E

good eats – my big fat greek sandwich.

I relied upon what I know a gyro is… a kind of meatloaf – typically served with  a funny named yogurt sauce onion and tomato with upsell on the feta cheese.

I haven’t mae pita, flat or naan breads so I bought those

    along with an onion purple

    tomatoes

    yogurt

    cucumber

    ground lamb

    ground chuck

     voila, here the sandwich portion

    Ihad on hand

    garlic powder,

    eggs

    pretzels

    italian herb blend dried

    fresh ground pepper

I figured I could whiz the pretzels about in the coffee grinder, add that and eggs and spices minus the garlic powder to the meats and mix them together.   it seriously needed more salt but cuss me for trying to avoid salt where I can.  cuss me for not getting perfect slices as I didn’t puree the lamb meat and it really if not both of them need it to be loafier..  in other words it was a classic case OF I have had lamb too lambie lamb and ug no thanks.  .. expecting this not the nearly tame lamb burger I  tried only to correct away some that taste.  oopsie.     boldness  it may not work but sometimes its helpful and it’s mostly a presentation thing to have perfect strips of gyro meat.  did I fail oh hell no.  I got an edible meal.  the cooks on hand said it was worthy of both eating and the effort praise worthy….as in they ate seconds.

tsadziki sauce?  fancy name for yogurt with cucumber garlic….dill… spaced that one ;) …add it- it tastes good.  mine edible and not a bad try I haven’t made it in along long over a decade I think time… so in a way I felbt like it was a first go for gyros… I’ve made the onion rings and diced tomatoes before.  I literally pelled the skin and cut the ends of a cucumber and pureed that together with yogurt and garlic… then strained it via a medium mesh huge can tuna strainer….with a coffee filter.  I don’t own cheese cloth.  I point out that this would be mega runn if you didn’t strain all the yogurt  and was still thin when I strained half of it… but you find a use for half a thing of yogurt unused?  I just don’t get to it.

thus I ended up skipping thepicture  sorry.

the lamb expert said later it is easier to get a signature taste with a more garlic and lemon juice with salt versus the hell of ingredients hither and dither

sister pointed out I should be proud of anything and everything.

her boss said it is very typical of the passionate cook to always look to improve.

    mmm.

one thing I note for you is to thumb  or finger away a spot at the corners  of your loaf meat or gyro as you can pore the fat to the grease can…. you really don’t need to eat it ;)   at least in one sitting.

why four corners because I don’t remember my positions in the over and I cant so quickly  putz about with a pan bubblin hot.

gyro meat is crustier so this means it’s by nature welllllllll done as in crusty over cooked.

rice water *1 rice 2 water, seasoning and oil – hit the button :D love owning a rice cooker!

brown chuck in a bit of oil flip and make bite sized crumbles I prefer shreds for most dishes.  drain, return to pan add bouillon water and cook all of that out, no cheating or corner cutting…all of it.

mix in rice remove from heat.

cut around tops of peppered remove stem and seed pod but also the yucky rubber ribs…SAVE cap

fill with beef and rice,  cap

place peppers in baking dish, add tomato sauce or addition water your choice

cover with foil and cook 1-1.25 hours 375F *preheated oven, eh?

the point of the chicken stock in with the beef is because chicken and beef make a mock veal taste which is far superior to beef and pepper.

I made five.  I’m making a steak here shortly.  I didn’t get any.

note, the finished dish is a rarity but that is what I made not poached online.

    Edit.

I had about a pound of fany grade stew meat instead of asteak. so round two of peppers was

oil pan steak hunks, tomato bouillon; brown rice, salt, what was left of y mesquite seasoning, oil; two ore peppers in a bread loafer as I didnt Ieye-spy a pan for ooking just 2 mmore better; pan liuid  tent foil bake

it was steak dang it.. most would look at e with incredulity but the first dish had my passion, the second was the afterbirth… by no means bad but I didn’t start out making due, I started out in command of the universe…there is also a leel of passion.and ended up just working the finger.  ;)

  • on getting passionate

okay, last blog is of my day as most may describe it- I went shopping and it was ooo oo a lot to carry,  I came home and the bicycle fell on me wanh? this is anything but passionate – the cussing about the bike biting.  the choice to be passionate is still there. Lets look at it?

I had a reason for visiting the Pacific Mercantile..  www.pacificeastwest.com  in that I genuinely wanted a shot at asian food of MY hand.  this trip was ghastly expensive in the grand scheme of things for what I have seemingly – or is it frugal?  but first a run down IN Pictures- so you an see too

    http://www.marukaiestore.com/images/Product/medium/3637.jpg

that is fairly lose to it’s atual size too.  House spice – sesame / chili oil – for dumplings? ramens baby!  you will not see this eat brand on the website  which is a shhame beause more than any brand they list, this is what Id buy as 2 oz last about 1 to 3-5 onths with use.. a si oz or fie oz bottle of sesae oil is liable to go to waste and this is bad.  I am still only one person eating een if I hit the motherloade of interest often with what I ook.  to me, 2.19 plus tax to not throw it away is a greater alue than perhaps a dark sesame oil that tastes far better but I an not use it all.

not kidding, this is priarily used for raen noodles onsumption  I should and now  as you soon will see an make dumplings but suh is why Ill always think of this stuff, the sesae zing that akes ramens go from boring to rather tasty.

you don’t have to pull these seacrhes up, but I’d like you to understand exactly what most of us non asian cuisine eating or aculturalized folk endure.  what the hell is it where is it jesus whih one to get.  what if any difference is there between 3.69 and 1.19 pakages?  oh god I have to think in the store not grab and go…shit I’m late!

if any one of you thinks I’m unaware of your lack of desire to live in a grocery store and are impatient and likely angry about it… hahahaha. :P on you I am aware and I’m only slightly more interested so as not to succumb to that.

    nori

    http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/be/Nori.jpg/300px-Nori.jpg

note thedark look of the sheet it typically looks that way unlike the very seaweedy look of it pictured on top.  you use this to make sushi rolls.  it is loaded with msg although not a one of you realizes that – beause msg is deried from seaweed and is ery natural  however,

    http://www.upmc.com/patients-visitors/education/nutrition/Pages/maoi-diet-facts.aspx

if you take ertain mediation MAOI’s for bloodpressure  aniety or suh not, you have been warned about limiting food intake  of the  certain weird words , because it’s harder to proess for you.  most people would avoid a chinese restaurant because they associate the plae with sering msg, as in a powder dusting their food, when to be honest most don’t make that or any recipe containing msg – naturally or otherwise present.  0 but mistakenly assume sushi is healthy and it can be duh,  – and hae no issue whateer onsuming doritos whih makes seaweed  look wimpy in the amounts of msg present.    go figure.  most of you are idiots.  however, so am I, so lets laugh and just try not to poison ourselves, but you deserve to know something about food and what you’ve heard to be careful of  :D

nori is about 1-2 buck or ~15 cents a sheet which is six to eight pieces sushi which costs from a store 5-8 bucks per said order, the rice is special too but we’ll get to that in a minute yet rie too is 50 maybe, and the vegetables and expensive toppings are about  2 bucks  yada sushi costs 2.5  in many cases and sells for 3 times what it costs to make.  sushi is tasty.  and even for a inventie soul possible in minors bulk as a treat to make even if you hae a limited budget.  a 3.69 pak of 25 sheets of premium brand nori sheets… whih incidently are made preisely like orn flakes are  the Japs seaweed, Us Corn mash… is? $13-`4 ents at worst for  of nori and thus is heaper than buying what you need only.  you should pith in for some bulk the pennies ount but not too muh.

this is seasoned rice wine vinegar.  what’s the seasoning? sugar.  what’s the point of spending 2.39 for this when I an buy a 99 ent bottle of apple cider vinegar or white?  I hae ade sushi I therefor know that you ight want to note the taste of rie inegar is loser and ilder as inegar goes to that of the  other kinds.  there is a deliay to sushi..  there is also propriety and proper.  there are times I don’t know shit all about what Im doing so I use what im told and like it1 lol :D before I go eploring.

for the record I have a pile of people who hate vinegar.  I can make sushi glazed rice with lemon juice and sugar.   I have even made sushi use rice from lemon juice and sugar from minute rice in a box – I reccomend you stop trying to think you hate eerything when it upfront needs a minor modifiation…however, minute rice is unlikely to oe out but 2 times in 10.. use the sushi rice eh?

okay, WASABI  it’s fuking lightening hot green horseradish.   its part of all preparations sushi whether you use it or not  w-e buks a tube making the stuff fro a powder is a royal bitch. I suggest and onsume the stuff ia tubes. :D   a peas sized amount will ake you ry for about 5-10 minutes…a dab will do. ;)

anned roasted eel in soy saue is… termed unagi likely inappropriately.  I like unagi and eel.  I think this with some ery thready sin arrt risp rolls up niely with onion to make maki- maki is the term for roll sushi and is of ourse far “heaper than theother kinds :D which is far more artful but also epensie.  I get canned unagi because I live 1000 miles fro anylarge salt water body of water. I therefore a making a preserved food item in the style of something blah blah blah, its tasty stuff and I have to store my food some.   it’s 2 buks a tin and a tin makes the huge fat maki.

    -

I hose not to get any sushi ginger as its sweetened with nutrasweet Imaoviding nutrasweet, and ore iportantlyly no one in the house likes it so itd go bad before I got to it all.

    -

    http://www.black-sesame-seeds.com/black-sesame-seed.jpg

black sesame seed s and there cousin white sesame seeds round out what I have for sushi.

the above is enough to have on hand much of all I need to make sushi – I could stand to get medium rice again cal-rose is a brand its better for sushi.  I own a mat for rolling it.  I already hae soy saue tunafish  and prdue.

expect to make spiy tuna rolls, which are

    https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQATkurbgm_-P3dcxn1p3YAOc0bCpnrT4BBwE6thm8yH4qbwQHn

you put the nori on the inside.  what does nori taste like- close to steamed spinach….the runa is the tuna salad you always make – oops you take out half the mayo add in it’s place soy sauce and hot sauce – the spicier you want your tuna the less soy the more hot.  do not make soupy tuna.  the rice on the outside is dusted with pretty blak sesame seed some  this is the closest picture to what I expect to make.

    http://img.foodnetwork.com/FOOD/2003/12/01/ad1b06_unagi_roll_lg.jpg

this piture may ut out some but this is a unagi roll, a catepillar roll is another option

I can eat the hell out of some sushi. :D

I have made versions of the above two and just got done watching how to make the third.  it’s possible… barely lol, but it’s possible.     basically it’s about how they make it pretty and it really isn’t but a ompletely different way alien to the way we deal with food….and done so with precision..  but within what i can manage, I would like some pretty food I can afford.

the next batch of stuff is less well stoked for make it all in ago but.

there are things called pepper hashe that are part of whats seared along with the noodles and topping.   this an onsidst of many fresh things like bean sprouts and suh -  although it’s different oleslaw iskinda the idea…a fresh bit of salad with the noodle and the toppings.  ietnamese reuires more inestigation… I know shit all about it, howeer, I an onsider it as now it’s “just a few things at the store to make.

twining lapsang su chong- my hu kwa supply is gone so yayayayayayayay I found this  for those of you who don’t read me or remember, I adore twining’s irish breakfast tea as my version of the best tea ever for iced tea.  I’ve had the real Irishman’s brand barry’s gold tea also an assam but interestingly far more bitter, but enough of tealand, the tea above is half the punch and price of hukwa but tastes good none the same I’m thrilled to have it as it’s not the first experience I had which was a tea so strong I nearly lost every person who tried it to distaste…this is a pleasant if weird smokey tea.
